Our flight left Frankfurt around 10pm. Dinner was served very late around midnight, especially if you consider that the flight is only around 6 hours long. We arrived in Addis early in the morning (6am local, 4am our time) on a Sunday. After being ripped off by a taxi driver (no surprise though) we were happy that we could immediately move into our room. Then we slept for a few hours.
Sunday is a very quiet day in Ethiopia, much like in Germany everything g is closed. So we spend our afternoon taking to some of the other guests and patrons at the guesthouse’s restaurant. They told us that travel is overall rather simple and easy to arrange. We go a few tips regarding where to go and what to do. With this knowledge we started planning. We want to do the traditional North route last because we want to finish our tour in Gondar, where a large religious festival (Timkat) is held. So we decided to go South first. We’ll catch a bus to Ziway today and have two more stops planned in the Rift Valley. Then we’ll go back to Addis and catch a train eastwards towards Djibouti, but get off at Dire Dawa. We already bought the ticket for the 25th. With the new year we want to start our north tour.
